Why am I making this blog?

Hello my name is Susan Hamori, I am starting this blog to document my journey towards healing my gut! I also hope it helps others by bringing ideas, perspective, and a community that can help one another with similar digestive issues :)

I have what the medical community like to call Inflammatory Bowel Disease aka--> IBD since I was 4 years old. Knowing this title does not give relief so I have done a plethora of tests and diets to figure out why I have this disease and to see what helps it: food allergy tests, colonoscopy & endoscopy, hydrogen breath test, etc... I now know what is causing the extreme inflammation in my gut... and that is...

Dysbiosis
-A dysbiosis is an imbalance of having more pathogenic species in the gut than the good guys called probiotics..

What caused this dysbiosis?
 the overuse of antibiotics...
when I was 4 years old I had a dog rip off my scalp and since they were not sure if it had penetrated the skull they gave me antibiotics to prevent a potential brain infection...(Thanks Kaiser! :S ) After this I had tons of ear infections which I was given....MORE ANTIBIOTICS!!! YEAH (sarcasm to the MAX! WOOT!) and because my gut was so messed up I would get sick constantly about 70% of your immune system is from the good bugs in your gut which I did not have anymore :( so MORE AND MORE ANTIBIOTICS!!!!WHHHEEEE!!!! (sarcasm again..)

-OK... so....you can see my thoughts towards antibiotics now... :S ... ONWARD!

Why dont I just take tons of probiotics then?
-Well according to the results from my Naturopathic Doctors stool sample the probiotics I need cant even come from over the counter probiotics.

-2nd of all when I take probiotics orally and up to a certain point that would be therapeutic it gives me extreme pain and gas.

-The only time I have noticed probiotics helping me was last year when I took antibiotics for C. Diff. Yes I had C. Diff and I still do...with a host of other bad bugs that the M.D.'s tests did not catch....

The antibiotics for C. Diff were torturous I had all the terrible side effects: metallic taste, extreme nausea, throwing up, headaches, the works..... every time my heart would beat it felt like poison running through my veins...the only way to escape the nausea and the potential of throwing up was to sleep...

-long story short--the probiotics after the last of the antibiotics made me almost normal (not complete diarrhea) but only lasted 3 days and reverted back to my normal diarrhea...

So what can I do about this horrible dysbiosis?

-Well my plan is to do FMT!

FMTFecal microbiota transplantation

also known as a stool transplant

So as you can probably tell by the second name....

Yes, it is literally transplanting someone who has healthy stool into someone who does not.

It is kind of the ultimate probiotic!!!

Since I found out that probiotic capsules wont work for me. I think this is my last resort on the potential to have a normal stool which will lead to hopefully not being in pain, not having to constantly think about how food will effect my bowels, and to be more spontaneous in my life ahead! :D

I first have to reduce the inflammation in my gut before the procedure since its too inflamed for good probiotics to want to even stay in there... I have been through a lot of different diets and have been constantly modifying it towards my own needs (about 4 months now) and I feel that each day I am getting closer to being able to do FMT.

My goal is to be healed by Summer 2013! At least by the end of Summer so that I and so far one of my friends can travel!!!

We were thinking--> backpacking in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand!! :D

I'm considering moving to Australia and not just traveling there so we shall see where life takes me :)

With this blog I shall keep you updated on what foods help me feel better, life, and whatever I feel like sharing ;)

If you have any questions or just want to talk don't be afraid to email me personally or to leave a message on my blog

I am also a Nutritionist who has helped many people with many health conditions including weight loss, digestive problems (others who had reoccurring C. Diff infections-3months time, IBS, IBD- each condition varys greatly from one another on what is causing it and what helps it), and other chronic health issues
